Image Compressor

Shrink a JPG, PNG, or WebP image in your browser. The file is drawn on a canvas, then exported as a lossy JPEG or as PNG if you pick PNG output. Compare original vs new size, then download. Nothing is uploaded. HEIC is not this tool.

This is a lossy JPEG redraw of your image on a canvas. It is not a lossless optimizer. PNG output is a PNG of that same redraw. HEIC is not supported. Nothing is uploaded.

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file, or drop it here. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use Image Compressor

Choose or drop one JPG, PNG, or WebP file. Set JPEG quality (about 50% to 92%) if you want JPEG output, or pick PNG. Then Compress image. The tool draws the picture on a canvas and exports it again. Compare original size vs new size, then download. HEIC files are rejected. Nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How does Image Compressor shrink files?

It draws your image onto a canvas and exports it again. JPEG output is lossy: quality is the JPEG encoder setting, not a lossless optimizer. PNG output is a PNG of that same redrawn canvas, not a specialized PNG compressor.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The file stays on your device. Canvas encoding runs in your browser and Deskutil never receives the image.

Does this support HEIC?

No. This tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP only. HEIC belongs to a later tool.

Will every image get smaller?

Not always. An already-small JPEG may stay similar in size or even grow slightly after a redraw. Lower the quality slider for JPEG if you still need a smaller file. PNG output is often larger than a well-compressed JPEG.

What file do I download?

One compressed image. JPEG output uses a .jpg name. PNG output uses a .png name. Original vs new size is shown before you download. Nothing is uploaded.
