How to add page numbers to a PDF

Choose or drop one PDF. Pick a position (bottom center, bottom right, bottom left, or top center). Choose a format: the number alone, the number slash total pages, or Page plus the number. Set a start number if needed (default 1) and a font size from 10 to 14. Then Add page numbers to download numbered.pdf. Numbers are drawn on top of each page. They do not reflow the document and may cover content near the edge. Password-protected files fail with an error. Nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. pdf-lib runs in your browser, numbered.pdf is built locally, and Deskutil never receives the file.

How does Add Page Numbers stamp a PDF?

It draws Helvetica text on every page with pdf-lib. This is an overlay only. Content is not reflowed, and numbers may sit on existing content near the edge.

What happens with a password-protected PDF?

Numbering stops with a clear error. Remove the password in another app, then try again. The file is never uploaded.

Can I choose position and format?

Yes. Position can be bottom-center, bottom-right, bottom-left, or top-center. Format can be the number alone, the number slash total pages, or Page plus the number. Set a start number if the first page should not be 1.

What file do I download?

A single PDF named numbered.pdf. Every page has a number drawn on top. The original file on your device is unchanged.
